Blue Butterfly Pea (Clitoria ternatea) Flower / Powder
About: Clitoria ternatea, commonly known as Asian Pigeonwings, Bluebellvine, Blue pea, Butterfly Pea, Cordofan Pea and Darwin Pea, is a plant native to Sri Lanka and equatorial Asia. This product contains whole flowers of the plant which are machine dried according to industry standards, preserving its herbal properties and colour.
Usage: Butterfly Pea is used as a natural food colouring to colour glutinous rice, bread, cakes, beverages and desserts. Butterfly Pea flower tea (Blue tea) is made from its dried flowers and lime, lemon or dried lemongrass. Blue tea is a popular food trend in recent times, owing to the wonderful benefits it confers, for human health, such as promoting weight loss, detoxifying the body, pacifying the mind, enriching skin texture and improving hair growth. Its herbal tea changes color depending on what is added to the liquid, with lemon or lime juice turning it purple. It can also be had as a standalone tonic or frozen as ice cubes to be used with beverages (watch them melt and transform the colour of any drink). Just like matcha, Blue Pea flower can be used to create a bright coloured latte. These can be achieved by using powdered Butterfly Pea. Butterfly pea flowers are also useful in skin and haircare products and herbal baths, thanks to its high concentration of naturally occurring polyphenols and flavonoids, which stimulates the natural production of collagen and elastin.
