Lactic Acid
Lactic Acid (80%)
Lactic acid is a powerful Alpha-Hydroxy Acid (AHA) widely used in skincare for its exfoliating, brightening, and anti-aging benefits. Naturally derived from milk or fermentation processes, lactic acid gently dissolves the bonds between dead skin cells, promoting their removal and encouraging healthy skin renewal. It is an excellent choice for addressing concerns such as dullness, uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, and fine lines.
Lactic acid also enhances the skin’s Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF), helping to maintain proper hydration levels and a smooth, supple appearance. For best results and safety, lactic acid-based products should be formulated at a pH of 3.3 to 4.0. At higher pH levels (around 5.5), AHAs lose their effectiveness.
Key Benefits of Lactic Acid:
-
Exfoliates Gently: Removes dead skin cells to reveal smoother, brighter skin.
-
Fades Dark Spots: Helps reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation and age spots.
-
Improves Texture: Smoothes rough patches and refines the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
-
Hydration Boost: Supports the skin’s moisture retention capabilities by enhancing its natural moisture factor.
How to Use Lactic Acid:
-
Facial Serums and Exfoliants: Use in low concentrations (typically 5–10%) in toners, serums, or peels. Always patch test before full application.
-
Formulation Tip: Ensure final product pH is between 3.3 and 4.0 for effectiveness and skin safety.
-
Incompatibilities: Avoid combining with products that require a higher pH or contain ingredients that may become unstable in acidic conditions.
Caution: As with all AHAs, lactic acid can increase the skin’s sensitivity to sunlight. Always use sunscreen while using lactic acid products.
Storage Instructions: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the container tightly sealed when not in use.
Achieve radiant, refreshed skin with lactic acid, the AHA that exfoliates, hydrates, and rejuvenates your complexion.
